EXTREMELY LIMITED 180 GR. LP EDITION. JAPANESE IMPORT. Sophisticated and elegant are two words often used to describe Dionne Warwick's musical style. However, she is not a performer of standards such as Lena Home or Nancy Wilson. Her singular sound can't be characterized as jazz, soul, R&B or gospel, though it possesses elements of all of these genres. Dionne is an eclectic pop song stylist, whose musical identity emerged out of the Brill Building environment of post-Elvis Presley, pre-Beatles urban pop in the early '60s. That's when she hooked up with Burt Bacharach and Hal David, songwriters and producers who wrote their unusually complicated songs for her aching yet detached alto voice. Dionne's complete third studio LP for Scepter Records, the fabulous Make Way for Dionne Warwick, is widely regarded as one of her finest albums. It would also be her first to make the charts and was undoubtedly propelled by the hits "Walk on By," "You'll Never Get to Heaven," and "Wishin' and Hopin'" ― all of which became timeless classics and key components of Dionne Warwick's performance repertoire. Interestingly, the same recordings of both the latter track and "I Smiled Yesterday" had also been included on her debut LP, Presenting Dionne Warwick. However, that didn't seem to deter her listeners. As a bonus, six additional songs have been included on this remastered reissue, consisting of well-known staples from the same period, such as the great "Don't Make Me Over" (which became the first of Warwick's collaborations with Bacharach & David to hit the pop chart), "Make the Music Play," "Getting Ready for the Heartbreak," and "This Empty Place." This is an indispensable set for any soul and pop devotee.
