Highly detailed 1/350 scale assembly and painting required plastic model kit of the famous German U-Boat ("Unterseeboot" or "Undersea Boat"), a military submarine operated by the German Navy in World War I and World War II. U-boats were highly successful in destroying Allied supply and merchant shipping in both world wars, and it wasn't until the Allies adopted the convoy system in World War II, in which merchant ships were grouped together and protected by a screen of escort vessels, that U-Boat menace was finally tamed. The German Kriegsmarine ("War Navy") further developed U-Boats in the Second World War, leading to a new generation of more technologically advanced U-Boats such as the Type VII, which was by far the most produced type. This AFV Club 1/350 scale assembly kit depicts the Type VIID U-Boat, a longer version of the VIIC with three banks of five vertical tubes (used to eject mines) just aft of the conning tower. Features listed on the box: New tooling hull parts. Deck gun can be assembled in flat or elevated position. Precisely replicates details of the vessel. Choice of waterline or full hull display model. Simple pressure hull is included. Option of either using plastic or photo-etched handrails. Finished 1/350 scale model of a Type VII U-boat is roughly 7 and 1/2 inches long.
